Kristen Jewell Appointed as New Development Director for East Cooper Habitat for Humanity

CHARLESTON (May 24, 2024) — East Cooper Habitat for Humanity (ECHFH), a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristen Jewell as the new Development Director.

Kristen Jewell, a seasoned business leader and entrepreneur, brings a wealth of experience to her new role at East Cooper Habitat. As the former Director of Operations at Silver Edge Dynamics, Inc., and the founder of the successful marketing and recruitment agency 38 South LLC, Jewell has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a strong commitment to community service. Her diverse professional background includes over seven years of experience in the sales and recruitment industry, where she earned a reputation as a knowledgeable and effective business owner.

Jewell’s career has been marked by her ability to connect talented professionals with opportunities that enable them to thrive. Her proficiency in content strategy, HR consulting, and resume writing has empowered countless candidates to showcase their strengths and realize their full potential. Additionally, Jewell has a proven track record of building high-performing teams that consistently deliver outstanding results.

Before relocating to Charleston, Jewell was actively involved as a volunteer with the Louisville Habitat for Humanity for several years. Her hands-on experience and dedication to Habitat’s mission have deepened her understanding of the organization’s impact on communities and the importance of providing affordable housing.

“I am excited to join East Cooper Habitat for Humanity and contribute to its mission of providing safe, well-constructed homes to last generations,” said Jewell. “I believe in the power of empowering individuals and communities, and I am dedicated to bringing my experience in strategic guidance and support to help ECHFH grow and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”

East Cooper Habitat for Humanity assists families by building safe, well-constructed homes. Working in partnership with low-income families, ECHFH utilizes volunteer labor and donated funds to provide a “hand up,” not a “hand out.” Homeowners are chosen based on their need, ability to handle personal finances, and willingness to contribute at least 350 hours of “sweat equity” on their home. Upon completion, Habitat homes are purchased by the homeowner with monthly payments under an affordable mortgage, and those payments are directed toward future homebuilding efforts as received.

As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, East Cooper Habitat for Humanity services communities east of the Cooper River in Charleston County and select areas of Berkeley County in South Carolina.
