“Homeownership is vital. There is self-reliance; there is security; there is pride that comes in ownership; there is prosperity for the family; there is stability of neighborhoods, economic growth. There are benefits for children . . . "

East Cooper Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit, non-denominational housing organization, works with people from across the country, around the globe, and from all walks of life, to develop communities for people in need by building homes. The goal to eliminate poverty housing is based on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety. East Cooper Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and serves the communities east of the Cooper River in South Carolina.
East Cooper Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1990, in the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. Using donations from several area churches, numerous enthusiastic volunteers and a gift of land from the town of Mount Pleasant, the first two East Cooper Habitat homes were constructed. Subsequently, more lots were purchased and more houses built. To date, we have completed 54 homes. |
